In the early 1980s, Nintendo sought to develop a game based on the popular Popeye cartoon, which would feature the characters Olivia, Popeye, and Brutus. However, due to the impossibility of acquiring the necessary rights to create the project, Shigeru Miyamoto created Donkey Kong, which in a way was based on it. The protagonist of this game would be Mario, who, therefore, can be considered Nintendo's first Popeye.
